  • Is a city just southwest of Houston, Texas. The Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land features a salt water aquarium and a digital dome theater. Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center offers interactive exhibits, including a child-size city called Kidtropolis. In the south, trails wind through Sugar Land Memorial Park and Brazos River Corridor. Oyster Creek Park includes a rose garden and a pond.

 

Sugar Land has appeared atop or near the top on multiple “best of” lists over the years, currently ranked as No. 5 on Niche.com's list of best Texas suburbs, 11th-best place to live in Texas, and 13th-best places to raise a family in Texas. Schools rank exceptionally well, making it a good choice for families.

Sugar Land found its strength in sugarcane production. As these settlers began farming and creating plantations, sugar became the primary industry. In 1908, a sugar cane refinery built in 1896 was purchased and renamed Imperial Sugar.

The growing of sugar cane ended in 1928. The economic foothold it gave the city has helped increase the population from less than 2,000 back then to today's 117,869 residents.

Since its incorporation as a city in 1959, Sugar Land’s residents live in a master-planned community with many parks and recreational facilities, first-class shopping and medical facilities, and a safe environment, ranking as one of America’s safest cities since 2008. Sugar Land has been recognized as one of America’s Best Places to Live and has been named a Community of Respect by the Anti-Defamation League.

In Sugar Land, the summers are long, hot, and oppressive; the winters are short and cool; and it is wet and partly cloudy year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 45°F to 93°F and is rarely below 32°F or above 98°F.

Based on the tourism score, the best times of year to visit Sugar Land for warm-weather activities are from late March to mid May and from late September to early November.
